Terms of Engagement
The general terms under which we work. Each client engagement is also governed by a separate, signed engagement letter.
Last updated: 8 June 2026
These terms set out the general basis on which Beacon & Ledger Consulting Ltd ("we", "us", "our") provides accounting and advisory services. They are supplemented by an individual engagement letter issued to each client, which sets out the specific services, fees, and responsibilities for that relationship. Where the engagement letter and these terms conflict, the engagement letter takes precedence.
1. Scope of services
We provide accounting, bookkeeping, tax, payroll, and business advisory services as agreed in your engagement letter. We will only carry out work that has been specifically agreed. Any additional work outside the agreed scope will be discussed and confirmed with you before it is undertaken, and may be subject to additional fees.
2. Client responsibilities
- You are responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the information and records you provide to us.
- You agree to provide information in a timely manner so that we can meet filing and statutory deadlines.
- You remain legally responsible for your own tax affairs and statutory filings; we act as your agent and adviser.
- You will tell us promptly of any changes to your circumstances that may affect the services we provide.
3. Fees and payment
Our fees are set out in your engagement letter, whether as a fixed monthly fee, a fixed project fee, or on a time-spent basis. Unless otherwise agreed, fees for ongoing services are payable monthly in advance. Invoices are due within the period stated on the invoice. We reserve the right to suspend services where fees remain unpaid, and to charge interest on overdue amounts in accordance with the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm payment terms with CFO before launch]
4. Confidentiality
We treat all client information as strictly confidential and will not disclose it to third parties except where required by law, by our professional obligations, or with your authority. We may, in turn, expect confidentiality from you in respect of our advice and working methods.
5. Data protection
We process personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Full details of how we handle personal data are set out in our Privacy Policy. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
6. Limitation of liability
We will provide our services with reasonable care and skill. Our liability to you is limited to the extent permitted by law and as set out in your engagement letter. We are not liable for losses arising from information that is incomplete, inaccurate, or not provided to us in good time, nor for any indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm liability cap with professional indemnity insurer / adviser]
7. Professional indemnity insurance
We maintain professional indemnity insurance as required by our professional bodies. Details are available on request.
8. Termination
Either party may terminate the engagement by giving notice in writing as set out in the engagement letter. On termination, you will be liable for fees for work carried out up to the date of termination. We will, on request and once fees are settled, provide reasonable assistance in transferring your affairs to another adviser.
9. Complaints procedure
We are committed to providing a high-quality service. If at any point you are unhappy with the service you receive, please raise it with us first by emailing hello@beaconledger.com. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to resolve it fairly and quickly. If we cannot resolve the matter to your satisfaction, you may refer it to the relevant professional body (see below).
10. Regulatory information
Beacon & Ledger is an AAT Licensed accounting practice and an ACCA registered firm, and complies with the professional and ethical standards of those bodies, including their continuing professional development and anti-money-laundering requirements. We are an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) registered with Companies House. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm AAT licence and ACCA registration references]
11. Anti-money laundering
As an accounting practice we are required to verify the identity of our clients and, in some cases, the source of funds, under the Money Laundering Regulations. We may ask you for identification documents before we begin work and from time to time thereafter.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England & Wales, and any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England & Wales.
